Seattle

I first came to Seattle back in '98 for a work trip and made a weekend stay of it. It was the week before Christmas and snowy but I still enjoyed my trip.
I hadn't been back since until a month ago. I am back again this week and each time I come here the more and more I think I could live here. There is just so much to see and do and the scenery here in the Pacific NW is incredible.

If you've never been, I highly recommend.

YNWA

Just got back in town last night/this morning from another work trip so didn't have time to post this on Wednesday but just wanted to say congrats to my Reds for their poetic win over Barca on Wednesday. Here's hoping our stellar record at Anfield can progress us on to the next round.

Oh and Go Lille! You deserve to not lose by a bunch of cheating red devils.

Fast Food Fast?

While I was initially hesitant to move to NYC a few years ago given that I had always enjoyed myself on vacation there but couldn't really seeing myself living there day in and day out. As it turned out I fell in love with the city and the main reason was the food. I am a big food person. I have always loved to eat, cook, buy kitchen items and watch cooking shows. I was a big fan of watching the original cooking show personalities like Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Justin Wilson and even "Wok with Yan" while growing up. Today, there is rarely a day that goes by where I haven't seen a show on the Food Network.
All this being said, NYC was a mecca for restaurants and varied healthy cuisine. I used to love trying new places for lunches and dinners. Which lead me to realize that in the couple years we lived there I probably only ate at traditional fast food restaurants a handful of time. Subway or Quiznos being slightly excluded. Especially since there was no Chick-fil-a. (sort of...another story)

So, now that we have moved away from NYC and deep into the frozen Midwest obese plains of Minneapolis, I have found myself being lured back into the fray of fast food joints like Taco Hell, Arby's and even Mickey D's on occasion. It is starting to disgust me.

But at least I am fitting in to my new surroundings, even if I am having trouble fitting in to my pants.

Spring is here?

So I flew out of town for work on Sunday which was Day 39 below freezing.

Yesterday, the high was in the mid-30's. Lakes unfroze, rivers flowed, streams babbled, parkas were shed, short pants pressed and donned. Ok, so maybe I exaggerate a tad but does this mean that Spring is upon us? Was the alliterative rodent meteorologist not as accurate this year as he never is? Well, we shall see how the temps hold up when I get back to nordic country later this week.

I'm dubious at best.

btw...

Day 36 below freezing.

And I used "balmy" again today in conversation. This must stop.

Domain names

So, i was driving along the highway today on my way back from a client meeting and had a revelation about a business idea. Since I think it actually has some potential I won't divulge the details just yet but I did do some research on some potential domain names.

What a racket! It seems like just about every domain name out there I could think would work for this business idea was owned by some shady legal firm or busty-Super Bowl ad-milking marketing company. Made me wonder just when did someone buy up all these domain names? I realize that the WWW has been around for quite some time now. And I certainly remember the days before the internet, but when did someone have the, now apparent, foresight to buy the most random combinations of words .com.

Of course, I realize that having the domain name is merely the entry point into my future business. I need to investigate the market a little further.... before I give in to the mammary market-eers.

Balmy

Never before having lived here in Minnesota have I used the word balmy as often as I do now. Mind you 99% of the time it is with a sarcastic connotation.

Considering that today is DAY 35 of temperatures below freezing. That's right, January 11th was the last day the temps were higher than 32°F. It is only natural then for one to say todays high of 11°F is balmy compared to a couple weeks ago when the highs didn't get above -6°F.

It is kind of bizarre actually. When the temps are -15°F with a wind chill of -35°F and the newscasters are saying they "recommend" you try and stay indoors today since frost-bite would start to set in on any exposed flesh within 8-9 minutes.

Balmy, indeed.

The Blog: Episode IV

Well, this is my fourth attempt in the past 5 years to start a blog and keep it going. Here's hoping I have more to say this time around.

Great....already drawing a blank.

My first blog was more of a collaborative effort. Which when I look back at some of those post, I am not sure how many of us got to where we are today. More on that later. Good times.

The blog sequel was more of an introspective "I wish-I-was-a-real-writer" sort of venue. Ended up just getting bored with how random I was being. I think when I finally posted something off the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, it was time to hang it up.

The third iteration of my blogging life was sparked by my move to NYC. New York offers quite a bit of fodder to muse about. It only lasted about nine months. If I recall, I found out about Wordpress and moved my blog but then never did anything with it. I also got married and realized there was a bit more actual living to do than writing about it. I leave the cool writings up to my new wife.

So this 4th blog will be more about me and my passions. Music, sport, food and the odd bit of trivia. The title of the blog is an homage to my team, the Reds, Liverpool FC. And it seems quite fitting to my life being a newlywed as well :)
