Never before having lived here in Minnesota have I used the word balmy as often as I do now. Mind you 99% of the time it is with a sarcastic connotation.
Considering that today is DAY 35 of temperatures below freezing. That's right, January 11th was the last day the temps were higher than 32°F. It is only natural then for one to say todays high of 11°F is balmy compared to a couple weeks ago when the highs didn't get above -6°F.
It is kind of bizarre actually. When the temps are -15°F with a wind chill of -35°F and the newscasters are saying they "recommend" you try and stay indoors today since frost-bite would start to set in on any exposed flesh within 8-9 minutes.
Balmy, indeed.
